EYEBROWS

Microblading, Powder Brows, Combination Brows, Nano Brows

About

There are multiple techniques used in eyebrow tattooing, but the most well-known technique is known as Microblading. Microblading (also known as Feather Brows) is a procedure that uses a manual hand tool to place pigment into the skin, mimicking the look of natural hair strokes. This technique is best suited to normal to dry, healthy skin types. Microblading is often considered to be semi-permanent as pigment fades over time, however, it is permanent in the sense that some lighter pigment will remain. Microblading is a commitment that requires maintenance, and annual touch-up appointments are usually required.

Powder brows use a tattoo machine to create soft, powdery-looking brows and is generally a more gentle method of placing pigment into the skin. Clients with all skin types benefit from machine brows, but I particularly recommend this method for oilier skin types, thicker skin or older, sensitive skin. A combination of techniques can be used for clients who want to achieve the hair stoke look, with fuller coverage achieved by a powder brow.

Eyebrow tattooing is a two-part procedure that involves your initial appointment where we determine your shape and build density with a follow-up appointment 6-8 weeks later.  Typically, Microblading lasts anywhere from 12 months to 2 years, and powder brows can last up to 3 years, with annual refresh appointments required. Different factors affect how long your cosmetic tattoo will last, such as skin type, sun exposure, the skincare products you use, the color pigment we use, and how you take care of your cosmetic tattoo. It is recommended that clients come in for an annual touch-up to refresh their brows.

BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT

  • No alcohol at least 24 hours before your appointment

  • Minimize caffeine intake the day of your appointment

  • It is recommended to wash your hair before your appointment to help prevent your brows from getting wet in the shower the next several days(this does NOT mean you cannot wash your hair during the healing process, just helps as a precaution for the first few days of healing).

  • Stop the use of blood-thinning medication at least 1 day prior (this includes Ibuprofen and Aspirin)

  • Stop using anti-aging skincare products around the area at least 2 weeks prior such as retinol, vitamin a, c, glycolic acid

  • Limit sun exposure and tanning services in the days leading up to your appointment. If your face is freshly sunburnt, you can not get tattooed

  • Refrain from using skin products with active ingredients around the area 2 weeks prior such as retinol, vitamin c, glycolic acid, other types of AHAs/BHAs, niacin amide or brightening products

  • Do not get any chemical peels, Thermage, IPL, micro-needling, exfoliations, or abrasive skin treatment that require downtime,  at least 2 weeks prior to your appointment

  • If you have had your eyebrows previously tattooed elsewhere, you must send me a photo of your existing tattoo for pre-approved before booking an appointment

  • Do not work out the day of your appointment as this can lead to more bleeding

  • Consider bringing reference photos or finding pictures in my portfolio that you like. I will work with you to find a shape, color, and style that suits you, but welcome your preferences!

  • We will not be able to tattoo over any blemishes, sores, and moles in or around the brow area.

Aftercare

  • The best results come from keeping your brows from getting wet for the next 10 days! That means no sweating, swimming, working out, saunas, spas, or sun.

  • Use the brow shields provided to keep your face directly out of the shower stream and do your best to carefully wash hair and keep your face as dry as possible. Keep clean, dry paper towels on hand to pat dry if they accidentally get moist. Also keep showers brief, as too much steam can harm brows as well.

  • When washing your face, be sure not to splash water onto your face like we normally do. Instead use a washcloth or disposable cleansing wipe to wash around the brows, making sure they stay dry.

  • Immediately after your appointment I will apply tattoo butter to your eyebrows, this can be removed 1-2 hours after your appointment using the sterile wipes included in your aftercare kit. Use the oil blotting papers provided to clean your brows and remove any oil or sweat 3-4 times a day for 10 days starting from day 1.

  • Do not apply any products to your brows other than the ointment provided for 10 days. Use the ointment provided once a day and use sparingly.

  • After 10 days (or when all peeling and flaking has finished) you can begin to wash your face normally, including your brows! You may also wish to use a pencil or powder if there is any unevenness during healing.

After YOUR APPOINTMENT

  • Immediately following your procedure, the tattooed area will appear to be darker, bolder and warmer in color. This can last up to a week after the treatment while the initial healing process takes place. The treated area may feel a bit like sunburn afterward with some slight redness.

  • During the healing period, there may be scabbing, flaking or peeling of the skin. If that happens, do not pick at it! Allow the scab or dry skin to come off on its own. This is very important! If scabs come off prematurely, the pigment will come out with it! It is totally normal for the skin to flake and peel, this is not your tattoo coming off it's just a light scab.

  • The complete healing process takes about 4 weeks, at which time the true color of the tattoo is evident. During this process, your tattoo will soften and lighten. Be patient, even if you think too much color has been lost, as your skin is still regenerating and naturally exfoliating. You may notice that some areas may appear very light or even to have lost pigment entirely after they have peeled, The epidermis will normalize over the next 4-6 weeks, and softened pigment will resurface and "bloom" back into the surface of the skin.

  • Microblading is a two-step process. Brows are not complete until after the second appointment, and sometimes a third appointment is required.

HEALING PROCESS

  • Your new brows will go through a lot of different stages while they are healing. What to expect:

  • Day 1: Slight redness, your brows will be bold, dark, and hair strokes can look thicker. They may feel a little sensitive like sunburn.

  • Day 2-4: Brows will look a little darker while they are forming scabs and healing.

  • Day 5-10: Brows make look patchy and light in certain areas while the scabs are flaking off.

  • Day 10-14: The new skin healing over top of the pigment is fresh and can make pigment look very light. This is normal and a part of the healing process.

  • Microblading is always a multiple appointment process to achieve the absolute best results and typically aren't finished until after your second appointment, and sometimes a third appointment may be required.  At your follow-up appointment, we will make any adjustments that need to be made to your shape and color, touch up any light spots and add density to sparse areas.
